Head of School Blog - 4/9/26

Well, we have already reached the start of another exciting academic year at LS-TEN!

It has been fantastic to welcome our students back this week and begin what promises to be another exciting year for the school. There has been plenty happening both over the summer and during our first week back, so it feels like a great time to look back at some of the highlights and look ahead to what is to come.

Summer at LS-TEN

Although the school may have been quieter over the summer holidays, there were still plenty of positive things happening.

Some of our students took part in our Shine Programme, which gave us the opportunity to keep in touch with students throughout the summer, provide support and, most importantly, continue to build positive relationships. As part of the programme, students enjoyed a range of fantastic trips and activities, including visits to Filey Beach, Yeadon Tarn, The Forbidden Corner and Go Ape.

From the feedback we received, the programme was a big thumbs up from both students and staff! It was brilliant to see students enjoying themselves, trying new things and spending time together during the holidays.

Another important summer highlight was GCSE Results Day. Some of our Year 11 students from the last academic year received their GCSE results, and it was a real privilege to share this experience with them after all the hard work they had put in throughout the year.

We were delighted with the results and, more importantly, incredibly proud of the students and the progress they made. We wish all of our former Year 11 students every success as they move on to the next stage of their journey.

Welcome Back!

This week has been all about welcoming students back and getting into the routines of a new academic year.

Students have had the opportunity to see some of the building changes we have made across LS-TEN, as well as meeting and getting to know our new members of staff. There has been lots of activity around school as everyone gets back into the swing of things, and it has been great to see the school feeling busy again.

This week also marked the beginning of our new Build Post-16 Provision, which is an exciting development for LS-TEN. We are looking forward to seeing this provision grow throughout the year and providing new opportunities for our students as they move into Post-16 education.

KS3 Projects

Our KS3 students have already been getting involved in Projects this week, with a visit to Roundhay Park to search for the hidden Victorian Summerhouse.

It was fantastic to see students exploring the park, working together and putting their problem-solving skills to the test. It was a great way to begin our Projects programme for the new academic year.

Looking Ahead

Next week we will continue to welcome and settle students back into life at LS-TEN as we establish our routines and get fully underway with teaching and learning.

Our KS4 students will be heading to Roundhay Park for Projects, where they will take part in the Geology Trail. This will link directly to our Geography curriculum and provide students with the opportunity to take their learning outside of the classroom and explore some of the geological features of the local environment.

There is already lots planned for the coming weeks, and I am really looking forward to seeing the progress our students make throughout the year.

As we begin another academic year, I am excited about everything that lies ahead for LS-TEN. We have some ambitious plans for the year, alongside lots of opportunities for our students to learn, develop and experience new things.
