LS-TEN provides a holistic education for young people in a caring, supportive and nurturing environment. We recognise that every young person has the capacity to make a success of themself regardless of their circumstances and individual starting points. Therefore, we are committed to providing an inclusive and wide-ranging educational provision so that all young people leave here ready for the next phase of their educational journey. We strive to give all students at LS-TEN the highest quality learning experience.

Our curriculum is designed to provide a broad and balanced education that meets the needs of all students, preparing them for life in modern society. We aim to inspire and challenge students, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary to become successful, confident, and responsible individuals.
Key intentions of our curriculum include:
1. Knowledge Acquisition: Ensure students acquire a deep understanding of the key concepts across all subject areas, with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy.
2. Skill Development: Develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and communication to enable students to apply their knowledge in a variety of contexts.
3. Personal Development: Promote the development of moral, cultural, social, and physical attributes, fostering a sense of respect, responsibility, and resilience in all students.
4. Preparation for the Future: Prepare students for further education and employment by providing opportunities to explore different career pathways, including vocational and academic routes.
-
Our curriculum is delivered through a carefully sequenced and coherent approach that builds on prior learning and supports strong progression across all stages. A key feature of our implementation is our established learning culture, which promotes academic confidence, resilience, and independence, enabling students to engage positively with challenge.
Our drivers for learning progress are rooted in consistently high-quality teaching and learning strategies, underpinned by a comprehensive three-strand curriculum model: Foundation, Foundation+, and Core. This innovative structure ensures an equitable approach to curriculum delivery, allowing students from a wide range of starting points to access learning at an appropriate level and make sustained progress.
Curriculum design across all subjects is deliberate and well-sequenced, with clearly mapped schemes of work that support the systematic development of knowledge and skills. Teaching approaches—including direct instruction, inquiry-based learning, collaborative activities, and practical experiences—are carefully selected to meet diverse learning needs and maximise engagement. Formative assessment is used effectively to inform teaching, address misconceptions, and provide appropriate challenge and support.
Enrichment opportunities, including clubs, trips, and workshops, are strategically integrated to enhance the taught curriculum, broaden experiences, and further develop students’ confidence and cultural capital.
Targeted support and intervention are implemented early to address gaps in learning. Adaptive teaching and differentiation are embedded within classroom practice and aligned with the three-strand model, ensuring that all students, including those with SEND, can fully access the curriculum and achieve success.
-
As a result of our carefully structured implementation, students make sustained progress from their individual starting points and achieve well across the curriculum. The clarity and coherence of curriculum sequencing enable students to build secure knowledge over time and apply it with increasing confidence and independence.
Our learning culture has a demonstrable impact on students’ academic confidence, resilience, and engagement. Students are increasingly willing to take risks in their learning, articulate their thinking, and respond positively to challenge.
The three-strand curriculum model—Foundation, Foundation+, and Core—ensures that all learners access learning at an appropriate level, resulting in improved inclusivity and equity. Students across all strands, including those with SEND, are well supported to access the curriculum, close gaps, and achieve success.
High-quality teaching and responsive formative assessment lead to strong classroom practice, where misconceptions are addressed promptly, and learning is adapted effectively. As a result, students retain knowledge more securely and demonstrate deeper understanding over time.
Enrichment opportunities further enhance outcomes by broadening students’ experiences, contributing to their cultural capital, and fostering well-rounded, confident individuals who are prepared for the next stage of their education.

Our Curriculum Strand Model
LS-TEN is committed to fostering an inclusive educational environment that ensures all students have access to a high-quality curriculum tailored to their individual needs. To achieve this goal, LS-TEN has developed a comprehensive three strand curriculum model comprising Foundation, Foundation+, and Core strands. This innovative framework facilitates an equitable learning experience, allowing students from diverse learning backgrounds to thrive.
Through the implementation of the three strand curriculum model, LS-TEN strives to ensure that lessons are individualised and appropriately challenging for all students. This approach not only supports diverse learning needs but also paves the way for meaningful academic progress for every individual who attends LS-TEN.
The Foundation strand is designed for those students who may require additional support in their learning journey. This strand focuses on developing essential skills and knowledge, ensuring that all learners can build a solid academic foundation. Through targeted interventions and personalised learning plans, students in this category can progress at their own pace, gaining confidence and competence in core subjects.
The Foundation+ strand provides a bridge for learners who exhibit potential for further academic challenges. This strand is designed to extend learning opportunities while still offering the necessary support. Students in this category are encouraged to engage with more complex concepts, fostering critical thinking and independent learning skills. The Foundation+ strand aims to prepare students for transition into the Core curriculum while maintaining a focus on individual needs and progress.
The Core strand epitomises the ambition of LS-TEN, offering a rigorous curriculum that challenges students to explore advanced topics and develop a deeper understanding of their subjects. All learners in this strand are encouraged to achieve their fullest potential, engaging in collaborative learning experiences that promote resilience and intellectual curiosity.
The Transition Group consists of our Year 7 students and focuses on supporting their move into LS-TEN. During this phase, students are carefully assessed to determine their individual needs and readiness before being placed into the appropriate curriculum strands—Foundation, Foundation+, or Core—in Year 8. Alongside academic assessment, the group plays a key role in helping students settle into the school environment, ensuring they become familiar with LS-TEN’s culture, expectations, and community.
