Head of School Blog - 10/7/26
As we head towards the final weeks of the academic year, this week has certainly been an eventful one! Between the excitement (and perhaps a little tiredness!) following England's enthralling victory at the Azteca and the soaring temperatures, it has certainly kept everyone on their toes.
Despite the heat, our students have continued to engage brilliantly with their learning and enrichment activities.
Our KS4 students enjoyed a visit to Thorns Park, where they took part in a range of sporting activities, demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day. Meanwhile, our KS3 students continued their weekly visits to The Music Box in Pudsey, developing their musical skills and confidence through another fantastic session.
Back in school, many subjects are beginning to round off the academic year. Alongside consolidating key knowledge, several classes have been taking part in project-based learning, giving students the opportunity to apply the skills they have developed throughout the year in creative and practical ways.
Subject Spotlight – Science
This week in Science, our KS3 and KS4 Foundation students have been exploring forces, with a particular focus on Newton's Third Law of Motion—that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction—and how this principle can be seen in everyday life.
One group investigated roller coasters, using their understanding of gravity and forces to design and build their own marble runs. Whilst they may not have been full-sized roller coasters, the same scientific principles applied, and the students thoroughly enjoyed testing and refining their designs.
Another class explored how Newton's Third Law applies to different materials by using an engraving tool on a variety of surfaces. Although the force applied remained the same, the results varied significantly depending on the material, prompting some excellent scientific discussions and observations.
Finally, students investigated pressure, exploring the two variables that affect the pressure an object exerts on another surface. Using a boxing bag and paint, they compared the effects of punches and slaps to collect evidence, which they will analyse and evaluate during next week's lessons.
It has been fantastic to see so much curiosity, teamwork and practical scientific investigation taking place across our classrooms.
Of course, with the exceptionally warm weather, staying safe has been a priority. There has certainly been plenty of water consumed and more than a few well-earned ice pops enjoyed by both students and staff!

Next week, our KS3 students will be taking part in Projects, with a range of exciting activities planned.
On Tuesday, we will be holding our Whole School Sports Day, which promises to be a fantastic day of participation, teamwork and friendly competition.
The following Monday and Tuesday are our Parental Engagement Days. Families should already have received information explaining how to book appointments. We look forward to meeting with you to celebrate the progress your child has made throughout the year.
