Head of School Blog - 18/9/26

It has been another busy week at LS-TEN as we reach our first assessment point of the academic year. This week, students have been taking part in reading-based assessments, giving us an opportunity to see the progress they have made with their reading and to help us identify the next steps in their learning.

Our KS3 students have been out and about this week as part of Projects, visiting Temple Newsam Gardens and other areas across Leeds to take part in our photography challenge.

Students have been capturing different views and perspectives of the places they have visited, and it has been great to see the creativity they have brought to the challenge. Once the challenge is complete, we will be showcasing the photographs, and we are hoping to see lots of different perspectives from our students.

Our KS4 students have also had the opportunity to get out of the classroom this week, visiting The WellNest in Kirkstall to take part in a yoga session. This provided students with an opportunity to try something different, develop their wellbeing skills and enjoy some time away from the usual school environment.

Subject Spotlight - Careers & Looking Ahead to Post-16

Our Year 11 students have also been busy thinking about their next steps beyond LS-TEN. This week, students have been working with our Careers Lead to begin preparing for their post-16 applications.

Students will shortly begin creating their applications so that they are ready to submit when the application window opens for most post-16 destinations in October. This is an important time for our Year 11 students as they begin to think about what they would like their next steps to look like.

Parents and carers of Year 11 students, please keep an eye out for a letter with further information about post-16 applications in the coming weeks.

Looking Ahead

Next week, our KS4 students will be heading to Temple Newsam Gardens as part of Projects to take part in the photography challenge. We are looking forward to seeing how they approach the challenge and the different perspectives they capture.

A selection of our KS3 students will also have the opportunity to take part in a yoga session next week.

It has been another really positive week at LS-TEN, with students continuing to settle into the routines of the new academic year while also getting involved in a range of opportunities both in and outside of the classroom.
